About Me

Hello Green Bees!

I’m Olivia and welcome to my blog

Here I’ll talk about everything green – the environment, conservation and what you can do to save animals all over the world. I want to share my experiences and raise awareness about many animal welfare issues present today, in the hope to make the world a little greener every day. That’s my main focus in life, and it has been since I can remember. At as young as 11 years old I was handing petitions round my school to anyone I passed in the hallway for some sort of animal abuse elimination cause. I find animals fascinating and more recently have realised their importance. We tend to neglect animal welfare, environment and conservation issues when it comes to decisions on who to vote for in an election, or what job to apply for, or what brands to boycott; all of these actions can have a profound effect on other species, which is crazy to think. So that’s why I’m here, attempting to be the voice for the millions of other species out there.

So a little bit about myself….

I’m a 21 year old aspiring wildlife journalist and conservationist studying a Masters in Zoology. But anyone who knows me well enough will know that my love for studying animals is just a scratch at the surface. I keep myself pretty busy with my degree but I make sure I’ve got time to spend doing all the other things I love. At the moment I’m a zoologist/makeup artist as I’m working for bareMinerals as a beauty ambassador. I also train horses, teach riding and used to be a fitness instructor. I’m just a little obsessed with guinea pigs. In my spare time I love to get creative, writing songs, making art pieces, and of course writing.

Here’s 30 questions I answered to give you a little more insight into the life of Liv…

1. My favourite sound is…

This has to be rain. Call me sad, but sometimes I just sit, staring out of the window, and just listen to the rain pour. I suppose it’s a good thing that I love it considering it rains 90% of the time over here in England!

2. An exotic country that I’ve been to…

My favourite place on earth – South Africa.

3. I would like to travel to…

New Zealand to see all its natural beauty, and of course to visit “The Shire”, being a massive Lord of the Rings nerd

4. If I could bring a famous person back to life, it would be…

Michael Jackson. I’d just love to interview him, and try and understand the real him. I definitely feel like he was an incredibly kind-hearted soul that was terribly misunderstood

5. You’ll always see me wearing…

Tights and a skirt. Never jeans – itchy and uncomfortable, no thank you. Or my dressing gown. I’ll probably die in one, I wear them that much ( oh and I have 10 by the way, because, you know, you can never have too much of a good thing )

6. One of my fave snacks at break time was…

A school bar!!! Hats off to you if you remember these/ever had one. Those chewy bars of fruity goodness that actually weren’t good for you at all because they were basically a lump of sugar. Can we bring these back to supermarkets please?

7. Sometimes I scream when…

I feel an insect on me. Especially butterflies and moths. Gosh those things are creepy. A zoologist scared of butterflies – who would have thought

8. The most important things in my life are…

My family, my friends, my pets (and generally all animals), music and mascara!

9. The life advice I wish I could give my younger self is…

Don’t overthink it – just do it. There’s not much to lose, because you will never regret doing something when at the time it was all you wanted. Put yourself first sometimes, but always be kind. Stop caring what others think. Stop hovering on the what ifs in life…they will only drag you down

10. An actor I would like to meet is…

Leonardo DiCaprio. Yes he’s dreamy, but mainly because he has such a big heart. His constant campaigning for animals and the environment inspire me.

11. A fragrance I love is…

I’m definitely a J’adore Dior girl. Jasmine is probably my favourite scent ever and J’adore is full of it. #TheDream

12. The funniest thing I’ve found in my pocket is…

Guinea pig poop! And this has happened on more than one occasion…If you don’t know by now I’m just a little (okay far too much) obsessed with guinea pigs. So yep, it’s not unusual for me to find poop in my handbag, pocket, bed. Don’t ask me how it gets there – I couldn’t even hazard a guess. But it does and I don’t even care because their poops are the funniest things I’ve ever seen – always the same shape and size. It’s like they just clone little capsules of poop non stop.

13. Something I didn’t think existed is…

Edible cutlery…apparently it was designed to tackle the huge amounts of plastic waste caused by non-biodegradable disposable cutlery. The only trouble is, it’s way more expensive and I’m just not sure how I feel about eating my fork once I’m finished with it…

14. My perfect pizza looks like…

Oh this is way too hard. Pizza is life, let’s be honest. So I think for this I’d have to choose a few different toppings and do a half and half sort of thing. Actually, maybe quarters because I have too many favourite toppings. Okay so quarter 1 would be spinach and ricotta. Quarter 2 mushrooms, peppers and onion. Quarter 3 pepperoni and jalapeños (I’m veggie but my god so I miss pepperoni). And of course, can’t forget the classic margherita, oozing with cheese. Yep, that would be my last quarter.

15. I never wear….trousers.

Except for….horse riding (I once wore shorts and regretted it hugely after my inner thighs were bruised purple from the saddle – don’t try this at home people). Also, I love the odd jumpsuit which counts as wearing trousers right?

16. I can’t stand it when…

People are fake. Ugh. Those people are the worst. I’m a very blunt person; sometimes it’s a blessing, sometimes it’s a curse. But one thing I am not is fake. Those people that act nice to your face but can’t wait to have a gossip behind or back, or pretend to like you when they can’t tend the site of you. Just drop the act and tell me how it is please!

17. If I could be one age forever I’d be…

Probably 26 – I don’t know why that age specifically as I haven’t even got to 26 yet, but it seems good in the sense that it’s young enough to look and feel great but not too young that you’re not ready to take on the world and all the horrors (and wonders) it holds

18. If I could be a day of the week, I’d be …

Friday. Everyone is happy on Friday…it’s the start of the weekend, and in England it’s the day you’re most likely to tuck into some lightly battered fish and chips. What could be better?

19. When I wake up, I can’t stand…

People making loud noises or talking right into my ear. At least let me come around…

20. If I went on safari, the animal I would be most excited to see is…

Hyenas. These guys are definitely underrated. Find out why by reading My Big 5

21. In school, I always skipped…

Sport. What can I say, I was very lazy..

22. 3 things i couldn’t live without…

Animals, music and the people I love ❤

23. If I could be famous for anything I would be…

The next David Attenborough (I can dream)

24. If I could choose to control fire or water I’d rather control…

Water, because so many countries are in desperate need of more. Not to mention how by controlling water, you could technically also control fires, by being able to put them out easily. Also, the thought of rising sea levels, and increased occurrences of tsunamis and such, really frightens me, and is a shockingly worrying threat, so it would be a relief to know I could control them.

25. A trend I really love is…

Chokers! I don’t care about people thinking they’re tacky or ugly, I personally love them, and therefore own far too many.

26. I would like to learn how to…

Play piano…there’s so many songs I want to do piano versions of

27. If something breaks in the house, I…

Hide the evidence and act like nothing happened…what they don’t know can’t hurt them!

28. I consider myself to be….

Fun, excitable, spontaneous, generous, very caring and thoughtful, but also blunt and easily made jealous. Everyone has flaws though, right?

29. A dream trip of mine is….

To travel Route 66 in the US in a camper van, and also visit Nashville and Arizona because which country fan wouldn’t want that?!

30. My dream job is….

To be a game ranger in South Africa, and work with film crews on animal documentaries

Lots of Green Love x
